Behind the Strutt ev¹c : Testing for Durability and Reliability

Behind every Strutt vehicle is a commitment to engineering, testing, and continuous improvement.

For Strutt ev¹c, laboratory testing is an important part of evaluating how the vehicle performs under demanding conditions, from repeated mechanical stress to environmental exposure.

Take a closer look at the testing processes behind our approach to intelligent mobility.

Built for Endurance

Durability testing helps us understand how a vehicle responds to repeated mechanical stress over time.

Our laboratory testing programme includes:

  • Dual-Roller Endurance Test: Tested under a 160kg load for 2 million revolutions, 10 times the referenced benchmark of 200,000 cycles.
  • Drop Test: Subjected to 6,666 drops across three cycles under a 160 kg load.
  • Collision Test: Tested through three frontal impacts at 6 km/h under a 160 kg load.

These tests help us understand how the ev¹c's structure responds to repeated stress and impacts. The goal is to identify potential weaknesses early and refine the design for the demands of long-term use.

Evaluating Environmental Resistance

Our testing approach also considers conditions beyond typical everyday environments.

  • Water Immersion Test: Evaluated for water resistance while operating in water up to footrest height.
  • Extreme Temperature & Humidity Test: Evaluated for operation at −20°C, as well as at 65°C with 85% relative humidity.

While these are not conditions users should intentionally recreate, testing them gives our engineering team valuable insight into how the vehicle behaves under environmental stress.

Testing Obstacle Performance

Obstacle testing helps assess how the vehicle responds to repeated impacts and changes in surface height.

  • Full-Speed Obstacle Test: Tested over 5 cm obstacles at 13 km/h under a 160kg load, completing 120 passes.
  • Speed Bump Test: Subjected to 1,600 passes at 13 km/h under a 160 kg load.

By repeating these tests, we can better understand how the vehicle handles physical stress from uneven surfaces. This helps us refine the vehicle's durability and work toward a more dependable experience when navigating everyday environments.

Attention to Every Component

Vehicle reliability also depends on the durability of its individual components.

  • Component Corrosion Resistance Test: Key components undergo controlled corrosion resistance testing to evaluate how well they withstand corrosive conditions.
  • Component Durability Test: Core components undergo rapid, repeated operation under high- and low-temperature conditions to evaluate their durability.

By testing components individually, we can better understand their durability, identify potential issues, and continue improving the reliability of the overall vehicle.

Engineered with Confidence

From overall vehicle performance to individual components, laboratory testing plays an important role in Strutt's approach to product development.

Through careful evaluation and continued refinement, we're working to make intelligent mobility more dependable, intuitive, and adaptable to everyday life.
